a couple of my friends, with whom i play incidentally, have been singled out for their excellence and should be recognized here. Nate and Adam's band Kneebody , recipient of a 2010 grammy nomination earlier this year, has been nominated for Jazz Group of the Year in Downbeat's 2010 Reader's Poll. Adam has been nominated as electric piano
player of the year in the same poll as well. Those of us who have never done anything of note or won anything of note have no idea what this all means. The fellows seem
nonplussed, but i hope they are enjoying the fact that some strangers have noticed that their playing is on the highest level. anyone who has heard them already knows something special is going on if not the exact nature of it. i flatter myself by association,
but believe me, standing up there with them at the grade school gigs and third story
bar jams makes me feel like a winner, even if it's just a free bag of chips because we played a song the bartender got married to.
